(was in the 3rd infantry and did sometimes 3 or 4 funerals a day in Arlington - that walk is a *loong* one, but it is a beautiful park. Your gramps will be in good company:)
I think Gen. R.E. Lee would approve. ( What most people don't realize is that Arlington Cemetery is what was at one time the front yard of the Lee family home.)
heh, I kinda went the other way - went in to be a ranger - after 2 months hanging out waiting for RIP to start (after airborne school) I looked around and realized "wow, this is *not* who I want to be..." I took the opportunity when it came. It was an interesting experience - completely different kinds of stress. I wouldn't do it again, but no regrets either.
