Thoughts and this weekend's shows

Earlier this week we were reminded that no matter how high the pedestal we put them on, heroes are mere mortals, and as such heir to the many darknesses of the spirit just like we are. A man who was one of my personal heroes in life did the utterly unthinkable and then ended his own life. Rather than be remembered as he should have been, for his magnificent accomplishments in the profession he called home, he will now be remembered first and foremost for the tragedies that occured in his home this past weekend.

But don't give up on heroes. Look around you, you'll see them everywhere, from the person who passes a kind word with a complete stranger to the person who runs into a flaming building at the risk of his or her own life to save the lives of others.

Heroes are everywhere and everywhen, you just need to open your eyes and you'll see the actions of one sick human being can't take that away. The reality of heroes is fragile but almost always noble. The concept of heroes and heroism is unassailable, untouchable. It is immortal in the finest sense of the word.

This weekend I will do my best to present main events both nights that celebrate heroism, albeit possibly in a humorous way. Just remember that no matter how many heroes may fall from grace in how many ways we can't even begin to imagine, ten more will spring up in their place. That is the way of heroes, and nothing can ever change that.
