Let's start with: http://www.cnn.com/2002/HEALTH/diet.fitness/04/25/atkins.diet/

This addresses the heart attack caused by infection of the heart tissue that the 71 year old Dr. Atkins had while working full time at his family practice.

From there, we'll hit: http://atkinscenter.com/why/debunking-the-myths.htm

And just for kicks, we'll touch on another Doctor's take on low-carb diets:
http://abcnews.go.com/onair/2020/2020_991206_carbohydrates_feature.html

We won't get into the fact that ketosis is a natural function that works to eliminate fats from body tissue.

Or the fact that up until about 300 years ago, man's diet (except, of course, in civilised areas) consisted of primarily meat - except in late summer and fall, when the grains were harvested. Then, they ate carbs, got fat, and survived the lean winters.

And it's a "low-carb" diet, not a "no-carb" diet; you're not cutting out all carbs, just most of them.
