As a person who may have the chance in his life to go to war, I'll simply state this:
I do not have a bone in my body that would allow me to smile upon the death of another human being. I did not join the military to 'go blow shit up' or 'go kill stuff.' I joined because I felt that the defense of our country is more important than my own life. I could put my life on hold to serve. Do I want to go to war? Absolutely not, it scares the crap out of me. Do I believe it's necessary? Absolutely. No doubt in my mind.
Is this a war fought for re-election purposes? Anyone would be a fool to disagree with that idea entirely, but I think it's less of an issue than most would believe it to be.
Is this a war for oil? If it is, I can live with that.
Is this a war to remove a genocidal tyrranus dictator who would nuke us without a second thought?
...Duh.
There are people in the military who joined for war purposes. They want to go kick some ass or create a "Lake America" in the shape of Iraq. But you'd find, amongst the military, that a higher percentage are scared of war... what human wouldn't be? But despite that fear, we are ready, and willing, to do what is necessary.
