What follows is a transcription of Michael Moore's acceptance speech for the Oscar given him and his team for "Bowling For Columbine".

Note: Don't bother giving me a rough time over this, because I frankly don't care and will ignore it. No, what I'll do is give it the MST3K treatment like it deserves.

For the record: I support the troops, without reservation. But I do not support this war. There's a difference. I can't, in good conscience, and I won't. Period. If you want to support the war, bless ya. I don't.



Whoa. On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this. I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to — they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction. We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fictition of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much.

I don't suport the war, but I do suport us winning it fast and with as few casualties as we can manage. At this point, victory is the best of a lot of bad options.

The President is a loon, and I'll be happy to wave good-bye in '04, but from where I'm sitting the actual war is doing well.

Now we have Repbulican Guards weing children as shields, making false surrenders, and travelling under false colors and dressing in civilians. They have guranteed more death, destruction and suffering. They're going die hard now.

What's happening here, is wer are actually seeing what happens. Not pretty, is it.

While I agree that the election was fucked up beyond belief, Bush came out on top. I also agree with the fact that when we couldn't find Bin Laden, Bush turned to the first person he could pick a fight with and knew where he was, that of course being Saddam. Regardless of the reasons, we're there now, so let's hope we kick the shit out of them quickly so they can come home soon.

I support Michael Moore's right to say what he feels. That is one of the reasons I served in the Army, I just feel that it was an inappropriate time and place. Gotta love Steve Matin's comments later on, "It was so sweet backstage. The teamsters are helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo"

Hell, even Susan Surandon just flashed a quick peace sign and Babs Streisand was pretty low key.

I prefer Adrien Brody's comments when he won Best Actor:

"Wait one second, one second, please, one second, cut it out...I've got one shot at this," Brody says, as the music dies down. "This fills me with great joy, but I'm also filled with great sadness tonight, because I'm accepting an award in such a strange time. My experiences making this film made me very aware of the sadness and the dehumanization of people in times of war, and the repercussions of war.

"And whatever you believe in, whether it's God or Allah, may he watch over you, and let's pray for a peaceful and swift resolution," says a teary Brody to a standing ovation. "I have a friend from Queens, who's a soldier right now in Kuwait, Tommy Zarbinski, and I hope you and your boys make it back real soon. God bless you guys, and I love you."
