Attention tech-heads! (Or oy, such a headache I've got.)

Okay, folks. Here's the deal:

As most of you know, this past weekend I got a Netgear router. Well, it didn't work out and I went back to plugging straight into my ethernet card. Since that time, my IP address resolutely refuses to resolve into any kind of a hostmask. Not in IRC, not FTP, not anything. Any ideas? See, when you switch from one computer to another, or router to ethernet card (or some such like that), Mediacom gives you a new IP. Help!

That wasn't even the problem with the router. The problem was with the fact that when I used it, my download speeds absolutely plummeted. I was lucky to get 33.6 download speeds.

Well, if it's busy pinging a university server repeatedly, then your connection speed is indeed going to suck... :)
