Statement
(This same statement will be posted to RadioNosferatu.com.)
My friends,
Today, President Bush called for a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage. This is bald-faced election year pandering to the religious right, and I will not stand for it. As the nephew of a gay man and the friend of so very many more gay men and women, I cannot stand for it. As someone who has seen the results of an otherwise wonderful young man beaten into a coma in the parking lot of a movie theater where I was a cast member of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the sole fact of his love for and sexual activites with other men, I have an absolute moral obligation not to stand for it.
Therefore, I am officially - and it must be said, without prior consultation with the staff - throwing the support of Radio Nosferatu behind the inevitable efforts to cast light on this shameful act.
We will help raise awareness of the issues surrounding the impending public debate. We will keep the public informed of developments concerning this issue, and we will fight until the last drop of blood has left our bodies to make sure this will not stand.
We will be providing information about voter registration so that our audience can exercise the single most powerful weapon an American citizen posesses - the vote.
Mr. Bush, I have the utmost respect for the office of President Of The United States. I have utmost respect for the magnificent Constitution that is the bedrock of that office. Too bad it would seem that you do not.
Hate and discrimination must not and WILL not EVER be codified in the Constitution of these United States!
I thank you.

I actually think that gays and lesbians might wind up having more success with marriage than many straight people, given the divorce rates.
I'm voting for Bush because, for the most part, I agree with his stance on the issues. Not EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL THING, but a majority of them. I think he's done a damn good job as president so far, and should be given the opportunity to continue doing so.
I wasn't making the comment that I'm still voting for him because I'm a moron, but mostly because it reminded me that I still need to register to vote, because a) I'm old enough to and b) I actually care enough and have taken an interest enough to feel that my vote would be an informed one.

How can we have a President that claims that he does not consider discrimination against women and gays to be an offense as serious as racial or ethnic discrimination?
*Wild Applause*
May I post your statement on my journal as well with slight modifications (since I'm not the nephew of a gay man, etc.)?
Cheers!

“First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.”
It's not the Nazi's after the Jews this time. But it could be. People, don't let this country take a step backwards on the road to complete Freedom, or else, this country will wither under it's own hatred.
