Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sinboy, I hear about this. Go read the article, then come back and let me put the following in bold so it becomes crystal clear:

"DAYTON, Tenn. - The county that was the site of the Scopes "Monkey Trial" over the teaching of evolution is asking lawmakers to amend state law so the county can charge homosexuals with crimes against nature.

(snip)

Commissioner J.C. Fugate, who introduced the measure, also asked the county attorney to find a way to enact an ordinance banning homosexuals from living in the county.

"We need to keep them out of here," Fugate said."

Anybody want to look me square in the damn eye and tell me this isn't about discrimination and hatred, anymore?

Speaking as a native of Rhea Co, TN (and living about 15 minutes from Dayton), I'm utterly ashamed of the county commision for pulling a stunt like this. There's no doubt that it's about discrimination and hatred, and it makes this place (which is generally a nice area) look like a home to a mob of redneck, bible-thumping bigots.
