The wastes of life who frequent Free Republic are usually scum sucking molluscs beneath my notice.
But in idly perusing their "headlines" today, I came across these fucksticks crowing over the removal of Whoopi Goldberg from the Slimfast website, supposedly owing to a Rethuglican boycott of their parent company's products owing to remarks she apparently made about the Preznit.
For the curious, the link is here.
These microphallic losers are calling whatever it was she said hate speech. Right. Apparently that's hate speech and what some psychotic freak of a Lieutenant Colonel said about Iraq being a holy war (somebody want to help me with a link about this or something) isn't hate speech. That's right up there with Orrin "Booby"Hatch whining about activist judges when his lord and master Shrubya appoints anti-abortion judges who actually still believe in the domination of the male over the female. That's okay, y'see.
If anybody on my friends list is someone who actually thinks that speaking out against the president is treasonous, if you actually believe that we shouldn't by God open our mouths in dissent, if you honestly consider these things wrong - then take me not only off your friends list, but I say this with utter conviction - I pity you.
You see, unless Reichsfuhrer Ashcroft managed to get the Sedition Act reactivated without my hearing about it, I have not only a moral and patriotic duty to say how I feel, it is my absolute duty to do so as a proud American.
I will NOT shut up.
I will NOT back down.
I will NOT let these pieces of filth make my country over in their in their narrow, hate filled, penny ante bullshit image.
I will NOT.
My name is Clay Evans, and I am a by God American. Don't like it? Do something about it, bitch, because I WILL lay the smackDOWN on your candy ass IF YA SMELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL what the DOC.. IS.. COOKIN'!

Date: 2004-07-14 04:24 pm (UTC)Were Whoopi's comments hate speech? I neither know nor care. They were crude and perhaps obscene, but I don't care about that either. When someone uses the phrase "hate speech," it's often as a prelude to suggesting that certain types of speech shouldn't be protected, and anyone who believes that simply doesn't believe in free speech, no matter what they say. And you're right that the term "hate speech" is rather selectively offensive - and not just for the pro-Bush crowd, either.
This isn't a free speech issue, however. No one has a right to keep a job as a corporate sponsor, and Unilever was certainly within its rights in responding to the economic influence of offended (existing and potential) customers.
