Go right ahead.
Convince me it won't or can't happen.
You know, I expect a lot of people are getting tired of me tooting the political horn and are getting annoyed by it. Well, I say people NEED to be annoyed. They need to get pissed off, and they need to get off their lazy asses and DO something about this happy horseshit.
We, as Americans, need to stand up and let the Way The Hell Far Right know that we will not accept this, we will not stand for this, and if they continue trying to push this utter schweinerei on us, we will drop them like the bad habits they are.
People, pay attention: GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND VOTE. The next stupid sonofabitch I see say anything about "my vote won't matter" gets buggered to death with their own left leg. If you don't vote, you don't get to complain. Bottom f'ing line. I have utter contempt for such thinking, especially in this case because if you don't think the very bedrock principles of American democracy are at stake here, then you're woefully mistaken.
I don't give a flying fsck if you like the Demos or Republicans. If you can look me square in the damn eye and say with a straight face any other political party stands a snowball's chance in hell of winning this election, I'll have to step back as the nice young men in the clean white coats will be along to collect you presently.
People call Bush evil, and I've done so myself. Frankly, I don't think he's smart enough to be evil. But the people around him are, and they prove it every single time they open their mouths. Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, every last man jack of that lot are spooky sonsofbitches right up there with Darth Vader or worse, Pat Boone in bondage gear at the Grammys the year he did that "In The Metal Mood" album.
Welcome to the new American Civil War, people. They started it, and by God we're going to stop it. Bottom fscking line.

But that piece is fearmongering to the nth degree. I'm not saying that a lot of those things wouldn't likely happen.. but some are just a bit far-fetched.

That said, the piece you linked to is full of as much hyperbole and fact-twisting as anything the far reich has come up with in the past few years.

I'm an independent myself.
However, the alternative is Kerry-Edwards, who frankly I find almost as horrifying.
I don't trust them to be reasonably honest or competent. I just don't know if I can bring myself to pull their lever once the vote comes.

The bottom line is political accountability. Bush and his ilk have put us through hell and thus have to be held responsible. Trust me when I say if Kerry and Edwards pull the same crap, I'll give them the same treatment. But for here and for now, Bush has got to go.

I'm just so horrified that this is the best anyone can put up against Bush.

It's an old saw, but nonetheless true: sometimes the best you can do is all you can do.

Except that in this election, even more than the last one, splitting the vote is an incredibly bad idea. It's going to be a Democrat or a Republican in the White House. There is absolutely no question of that. None. So the American public needs to decide which. Voting independent/Libertarian/whatever is precisely the same as voting for the Shrub.

Then there's Kerry's record of support for the Lesbian-Gay-Bi-Transgendered Community and of a Woman's Right to Choose. These may seem like small issues to some people, but I can guarantee you that there will be *NO* support for them coming from the current administration. And even though Kerry has said he doesn't support gay marriage -- but rather civil unions -- it's understandable that he says this, because to come out in support of gay marriage now would be political suicide. It's sad, but it's true. But Kerry has at least shown us that he can separate his personal beliefs from the needs and desires of the People, which is something Bush and his cronies are incapable of.
Don't hold out on principal now. It's too important an election for that.

Welcome to The World Revolution Brother, because although Bush's men are the most obvious and persistant offenders, they are not alone in their villany.
In my own country, Blair is obviously the very model of a "modern polititian", but Michael Howard is just as bad [oppersition leader].
It's like a dark maliese spreading it's way through the corridors of power. A shadow that taints everyone it touches, eventually. [Blair started out an honest man too.]
Voting for those few honest, bright hopes is one way of combating it. But there may well come a time when there's nothing left to choose between them, when their puppet masters have the whole show sewn up.
Then it's either fight or flight.
