Well, now.

It seems I've lost another friend, no doubt because of how I feel about the band of thugs currently hijacking the White House. I won't shut up about how I feel, people. You'd best get used to it.

The older I get, the more of a mouth I get, apparently.

christi, darling, you need to take a step back and realize that if they don't at least respect the fact that you have an opinion, then they really werent that great of a friend to begin with...

and that advice is coming from a 20 year old, but not any 20 year old, the 20 year old that almost DIED with you a couple years back.

and the same goes for everyone that reads this. If your political views or ANY views causes you to lose friends, then they really weren't that much of a friend to you to begin with.

*takes a bow and makes her grand exit*

Well said. What matters is what motivates those views, rather than the views themselves. I have friends with whom I have profound, substantial disagreements - and that's fine with us.

Congratulations. If you're not pissing people off, you're not accomplishing anything. Recall one of my favorite proverbs from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: "The cut worm forgives the plow."

*pats.* Dun worry, you won't lose me. ...Sometimes I want to stab you through the eye with a pencil, Mr. Conspiracy Theory, but there are a lot of my friends who I don't share politics with.

So don't worry. You're stuck with me.

If you lost friends cuz of that, that's stupidity on their part. You rock.

Thanks, sweetie. I'm just a pissed off liberal Irishman with a big mouth.

But hey...that's why I love ya!

pissed off liberal Irishman with a big mouth.

Y'know, "liberal Irishman" would have meant the same thing. :)

No shit. You busy tonight? I'm thinking of crankin' up some Grateful Dead and Gov't Mule on the stream.

[identity profile] darthgeek.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
So long! Don't let the door hitya where the good lord split ya!

Keep on ranting Doc. I appreciate it.

Y'know, on the occasion that I post something philosophical or political, I worry about whether or not I'll piss off any of my friends.

Then I realize that it doesn't matter - those who leave (only one has, ever), don't matter, and those who stay, even if they disagree with me, know they have the freedom to do so.

I'm not sure what my point is . . .

[identity profile] ex-deliveryboy.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone has their own opinions. Noone is going to 100% agree with anyone on anything. I have friends on both hands, left and right. I dont agree with everything you've said, and I don't agree with everything they've said.

That's the great thing about the USA. You don't HAVE to agree with everything. You SHOULDN'T agree with everything, otherwise, what's the point.

Unfortunately, not everyone can understand that with frienship comes acceptance and tolerance of other people's opinions, even if they don't agree with them.

That's why I give *everyone* grief. Pick a topic, I'll argue the other side, just to spite people. :)

Want to be a vegetarian, tree hugging hippy liberal? Then I'll be a meat eating, gun toting clear cutter. Whatever. ;)

As long as I get to piss off the religious right, I'm happy. ;P

This is your journal, and you should feel free to express yourself as you please. I'm no fan of that current band of thugs, and you know that. I'm even less of a fan of Hanoi John and Ambulance Chaser John, and you know that, too. I certainly wouldn't ever ask you to shut up about how you feel, though.

After all, as a fellow MSTie, I know your heart is in the right place. :-)

I lost two after my last politics rant. One of them was someone who'd dropped Yendi and I a few months back after a rant of YENDI'S, and added us both back last month...

Dude, I don't keep my mouth shut. Deal or go away!

As ticked off as I may get with what you say sometimes, you do provoke thought. If one side closes off the other, no progress can be made.

Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke. :)

You won't lose me as a friend. :-)

The dinks don't deserve to read what you write.

The fact that you do speak out gives me hope for the human race. Please don't stop... (not that you ever would)...

With age come wisdom and more opinions:)

[identity profile] docwebster.livejournal.com 2004-07-31 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, thank yew m'dear Denity. You know, I think this is the first time you've ever commented in my journal. I feel so very special now and I think I'm going to go to bed before my sleep deprived mind gets any more twisted in weird knots. Wh00t, I say unto ye blessed.. or something.

[identity profile] denity.livejournal.com 2004-07-31 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't comment to much in your journal for fear of sounding stupid cause you seem so smart thought I read all your stuff:)
