Gee other noticeable missings:
Adolph Hitler
Ida Amin
Jim Jones

... and that's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I could come up with another 20 or 30 if I actually thought about it. Obviously these folks didn't

And even Adolf, frankly, was a piker. Josef Stalin ordered the deaths of 20 million Russians between 1929 and 1953. And Pol Pot only had 10 million people in Cambodia to work with in the first place, but he managed to kill off a fifth of them.

That's okay, I also read the list the Left Wingers came up with and it is equally stupid.

I think they went looking for the dumbest people in the country and polled them on both sides.

Entirely possible.

It does depend on your point of view. Are we going on just people who have killed people or convinced other people to kill people? Or are we going on lasting negative impact on the largest number of people?

I can see Jimmy Carter on the list because he opened trade relations with China and many people see that as unemploying Americans.

Bill Clinton because he lied to us. And that really has made being President of the United States of America a laughing stock to many people. I see it as a wake-up call myself.

So, let me get this straight.. Clinton lying is worse than a mass murdering psychopath?

If you believe that the integrity of the Oval Office/President of the United States of America is important then yes I can see people believing that Clinton's lying was worse than the death of many people. After all it's having a lasting impact on the entire nation that we don't know how to repair. With a mass murderer you punish them. You offer sympathy to the families.

Hey, guess what... Every president we've had has lied to us, many of them about important things.

And Hilary is up there, too. Shouldn't we have more sympathy for the victim of the Worst Crime Ever Committed by a Head of State?

They are figureheads of the Democratic Party, and the right-wing directive is to never stop smearing them. That's all there is to it, and that's all the "lasting impact" consists of.

Hey, guess what... Every president we've had has lied to us, many of them about important things.

Can you list the ones who have done so under oath to tell the truth?

And Hilary is up there, too. Shouldn't we have more sympathy for the victim of the Worst Crime Ever Committed by a Head of State?

Should we? She knew what was going on as this wasn't the first time Bill Clinton had an affair. And you'll note that I never said it was the Worst Crime Ever Committed by a Head of State. I said it was one that we don't know how to recover from. For that matter, I'm not sure how we recover from George W Bush throwing us in to war with Iraq and quite possible Iran.

They are figureheads of the Democratic Party, and the right-wing directive is to never stop smearing them. That's all there is to it, and that's all the "lasting impact" consists of.

No.

First of all, the stupid list is just that: a stupid list. Don't get your pants in a wad over it. Neither the extreme right nor the extreme left would recognize a rational argument if it came up behind them wearing jackboots and bit them on the ass.

Second: Clinton's compulsive lying and influence-peddling did huge harm to the world's perception of the integrity of the Oval Office. Just because you don't like this doesn't make it untrue, any more than the fact the right wing doesn't like to hear the irreparable damage Shrubya has done to the world reputation of America as a whole makes that untrue. Deal with it.

Clinton had the moral integrity of a weasel. Two hundred years ago, if he'd made a bid for the Oval Office, they'd have tarred and feathered him and rode him out of town on a rail. I don't think for one moment this makes him one of the 20 worst figures in history, though I can quite see the possibility of other folks who don't take the time to think beyond their party-line dogma thinking so.

Third:
Hey, guess what... Every president we've had has lied to us, many of them about important things.
In case you were asleep from 1992 to 2000, Clinton DID lie about the important things. He whored out the influence of his office to Communist China in return for campaign funds, for crissakes. Congress just failed to impeach him on all of the important issues because they knew they were every bit as dirty and as corrupt as he was. The impeachment was more or less set up to fail.
Our government is full of liars, cheats, crooks, and scumbags. Pretending Bill Clinton was some kind of golden boy is sheer self-delusion.

So lessee, among their top 20 worst figures in history we have Jimmy Carter, possibly a lackluster President but one of the finest statesmen in recent US history; we have Richard Nixon (Watergate aside, "Only Nixon could go to China"); and we have FDR, who by most accounts pulled the US out of the Great Depression.

Conspicuous by their omission are such luminaries as Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Josef Stalin, Josef Mengele (aka the Angel of Death)... and that's just in the 20th century.

And what the hell is Noam Chomsky doing in there?!? They must be smoking some really stroooong shit.
