Fun and games with Alan Keyes

The phrase "hypocritical sonofabitch" doesn't seem to quite cover it, but it'll do:

Far-right lunatic Alan Keyes is running for the Senate in Illinois against the hugely-popular Barack Obama, an Illinois state senator. One problem, Alan Keyes lives in Maryland. He's never lived there, didn't attend school there, has no ties to the state. But it's legal as long as he establishes residency.

But Mr. Keyes said the following with Sen. Hillary Clinton moved to New York to run in that state:

"I deeply resent the destruction of federalism represented by Hillary Clinton's willingness to go into a state she doesn't even live in and pretend to represent people there. So I certainly wouldn't imitate it."

One of the reasons that it took them so long to find someone to run on the GOP side here in Illinois is simply because they really don't have a chance in Hell of ever winning - for them to have any real chance, they would already have to be immensely popular in the state (like former governor Edgar), or VERY well known on the national level (I'm talking Dole or McCain status), neither of which Keyes is here. It's no mistake that the GOP went out of its way to find a black candidate either - there were a few willing and qualified white and hispanic candidates that were willing to run, but the GOP wouldn't have any of that because that would be an essential automatic slow death against the immensely popular Obama here. Short of a major scandal, Barack will have very little difficulty winning in November - thank gawd.
