Date: 2004-08-20 12:00 am (UTC)Is he a pathetic excuse for a human being? Yes, of course. Should he be punished for what he was doing? Yes, of course.
But the important thing to remember is that he is a human being, and human rights are for everyone. Saying it's okay to do something like this to someone because he's a pedophile just opens the door for all sorts of other justification.
There is a reason why vigilante justice is outlawed: one law for everyone. Whatever your crime, whatever your story, you get the same legal treatment (in theory, yes) as everyone else. That's sort of the whole point of having a justice system to begin with.
