*GAPE* They've done it again!

The Inter-American Telecommunication Commission meets three times a year in various cities across the Americas to discuss such dry but important issues as telecommunications standards and spectrum regulations. But for this week's meeting in Guatemala City, politics has barged onto the agenda. At least four of the two dozen or so U.S. delegates selected for the meeting, sources tell TIME, have been bumped by the White House because they supported John Kerry's 2004 campaign.

The White House admits as much: "We wanted people who would represent the Administration positively, and--call us nutty--it seemed like those who wanted to kick this Administration out of town last November would have some difficulty doing that," says White House spokesman Trent Duffy.

[livejournal.com profile] archmage has this to say about it:

"That's the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission, a group that only meets three times a year to discuss things like telecommunications standards and spectrum regulations. Not exactly a political arena...but, apparently, Dubya has stooped so low that he's just outright and OPENLY bumping those that supported his opponent in the last election. Hell, they've admitted it.

This is not a political matter. This is an meeting of industry experts for telecommunication issues. Explain to me how this is any kind of party situation, and how this manoeuvre is ethical in any way. (emphasis mine - Doc)

You'd think someone with an approval rating that is hovering around 45% would be, at the very least, a little more subtle about the stupid things he does. But openly? That's just showing a contempt for the country you "run". Well, one good thing, in my opinion: the more he does like this, the more the American public will realize what a whack-job he is, and maybe we can start to make a change."

Go ahead and try to defend this. Go ahead.
