Tom Baker completely disses new Doctor Who

Tom Baker's blast at new Dr Who

Actor Tom Baker says he's never heard of the show's new star - Christopher Eccleston.

He also criticised Eccleston for taking the role too seriously, adding: "Get your head out of your fat bottom."

Baker played the time travelling doctor from 1974 to 1981, says The Sun.

He added: "I was rather disappointed to hear this Doctor was going to be more serious. It always sounds very hollow in the mouth of an actor.

"When actors use words like 'challenge' and 'serious' you think to yourself 'Oh just shut up'."

Eccleston said of the role: "I plan to give weight and ambiguity to it. I don't think he's going to be as eccentric and foppish as some incarnations."

Baker was speaking to the Radio Times and also said he'd like to play the doctor's other arch-rival The Master.

Dr Who hits TV screens next year.

I have some deep seated dislike for Christopher Eccleston, although I really have no reason for it.

Well ya know who Tom was rooting for, right?

He was hoping for Eddie Izzard.

Eddie, in a similar role to the one he played in Mystery Men, as The Doctor.

That works for me.

I've never watched Dr. Who before. Had Eddie pulled the role, though...

Well he's right, you know...

If it weren't for the fact that he'd be lying, I'd love to hear a Beeb rep (or Gary Trudeau) say to Tom, "He's never heard of you, either."

Tom's a jackass, no matter how much fun he is to watch.

He was great as Puddleglum in The Silver Chair, but I don't think he had to act. They dressed him up, and he just acted naturally.

Tom Baker as The Doctor, and Clint Eastwood as the master

A Fist Full of Doctors

*groan*

OK, how about this one:

Tom Baker as the Doctor, and Jodie Foster as his assistant Clarice.

"The Silence of the TARDIS"

Personally, I would be tickled to see Tom Baker play the Master. The Master has always held a bit of disdain for his nemesis, and you would hear it just drip from Baker's voice.

Oh, yes. And I can almost hear Anthony and Roger chuckling about it together from the beyond....

Can't help but think he's right.... it does sound a bit like they're taking all the 'fun' out of it.

I think that was...

... a tad rude by Tom. Admittedly, I'm doubtful about the new approach, but let 'em get it on screen before we roast, please.

OTOH, Tom Baker IS getting on in years, so he's earned the right to be crotchety if he wants. And he WAS my favorite Doctor (well, halfway; he and Pertwee keep duelling it out for the top spot in my mind).

Tom as the Master would be an excellent idea.
