A word or two of explanation is clearly needed

This is in response to an ongoing thread in another person's log, but I'm putting it out here so that every last person who thinks we need to not take it so personally or "live with it" can understand why.

That bastard and his policies have directly affected me and mine. I will never forget or forgive the sound of my mother sobbing on the phone because my grandfather's ashes were still in her bedroom cabinet because she couldn't afford to get them transported to Arlington National Cemetary owing to the fact her unemployment benefits had been cut off and she needed to save every last cent to keep a roof over her head. That same day, or thereabouts, Preznit Bucky The Wonder Chimp burbled about restarting that moronic missile defense system. Nice priorities, yeah - orally service the military/industrial cabal instead of giving your own citizens a leg up while they try to find work. Fuckheads.

But it's not just him, oh no.

It's the miserable stupid paranoid bastards who are so afraid of two people of the same sex getting married and calling it that that they codify their hatred and intolerance into law.

To sum up: when you piss on my friends and my family, I will piss right back on you because you just made it personal. It's bad enough when it's happening to Somebody Else, but when you bring them into it, you by extension bring ME into it and I will defend them with everything I have and then some.

I hope this isn't intrusive, but did your Mom ever get your Grandfater to Arlington?

ok. So everything would have been right with the world if Kerry had been elected? No. In fact, next year you might have been on this same rant... only with a different name. Taking it personally or not "living with it" isn't going to fix anything. Nothing will ever be perfect. There are ALWAYS going to be problems... you know why? NO ONE IS PERFECT.

If you take this as me arguing for Bush... Nevermind, hopefully no one is that unintelligent.

I can't believe I've gotten on this string. So this is my last post/comment about it. Cheers.

No, I don't take it as you arguing for Bush. If you were, you'd say so right up front. I know you better than that.

Thank you for explaining your position so clearly. It helps. But as [livejournal.com profile] j0fo said, I'm not sure Kerry would have solved those problems. Just because he is campaigning against Bush doesn't necessarily mean he is for some of the things I support. I did vote for him but I'm pretty sure it isn't in his agenda to secure rights for people who are poly, pagan or gay. If he wanted to support any of those groups, he wouldn't have voted for the Defensive Marriage Act.

I stand corrected. Kerry voted no on the Defensive Marriage Act. Sorry for mispeaking.

I hear you.
