No, it's not in
mopolitics. Deal with it.

After being made aware of this story by
dandelion_diva (my favorite yummy Italian dish), I sent an email to the Congressman in question.
As a former resident of both Vincennes and the great state of Indiana, I feel compelled to weigh in on this issue.
I quote: "I believe it is time to change the name of the highway. It is the moral thing to do.”
You want morals?
Feed the hungry.
Clothe the naked.
Visit the sick and the afflicted.
Care for the widows and orphans (aka single parent families).
Visit those in prison.
Love your neighbor.
I realize the violation of the rules that would be involved in naming it I-69 pretty much makes it a moot point. But to couch it as a morals issue for the sole apparent purpose of providing a feel good soundbite for the Religious Right is an insult not only to Vincennes and my former home of Indiana, it is a slap in the face to ministry of the son of our Lord God, the risen Christ.
Moreover, I would have thought paying attention to the sniggering of adolescent teenagers and others who play off the number's sexual connotation would be beneath any person holding the office of Congressman. I hope I'm not wrong about that.
Clay Evans
(And just in case anyone feels the deep seated need to give me grief about the religious terminology I used, don't. I was trying to speak the only apparent language he understands, the smarmy looking little freak.)

Date: 2004-11-16 12:43 am (UTC)But then, my state legislature gave us this. I wonder of the morally upright citizens of Indiana realize that they'll likely end up with signs that read "former I-69" in addition to the new number, to assist unwary travellers with old road maps. (Presumably the devil's forwarding address isn't as indecent as a standard road sign.)
Okay, and once we've done this...

Date: 2004-11-16 01:09 am (UTC)But check this.
That said, they did actually perform an exorcism on County Route 666 in New Jersey, before renaming it. Mr. O informs me that they also did it to US Route 666 in either AZ or NM before renaming it.
People are dumb. :) (Not you.)
Sad, sad
Date: 2004-11-16 01:52 am (UTC)I hope she doesn't actually read anything from shakespeare. That would be way to risque for teenagers. Burn the books while your at it.
I really don't think we have to worry about shakespeare, she will be too busy doing the important highway re-naming thing.
I say let it go people, stupid people need hobbies too.

Date: 2004-11-16 03:16 am (UTC)As all of this and the exorcism for 666 and the time etc all take funding that could be far better used for less frivolous pursuits.
When will these people with such pedestrian type mentalities grow up and get over their own insufferable little phobias?
Are they all in grade school??
