I just watched part of the "Party At The Palace", and two things had me in awe:

Lenny Henry's pure brass cheek, cracking wise about a black guardsman outside the palace: "A black guy with a gun outside the queen's house and he didn't get arrested."

The absolutely divine Dame Shirley Bassey doing, of course, "Goldfinger" with full orchestral backing. You go, girl.

That's pure Lenny Henry all right... that's one thing I miss with the comedy here in recent times... you don't have the "nothing is sacred" attitude of some Australian and British commedians. It's almost like it's now considered that things have to be sacred or something... American comedy isn't what it used to be. Yes, I am more used to the British style of humour, but I haven't found many US commediens that appeal to me ... It astounds me that a talentless hack like Carrot Top is considered a commedien.

Which "Party at the Palace" did you see?

The VH1 version was mostly rock singers.
