So SixApart bought LJ.

Big fucking whoop-te-do.

To hear people's reactions to it, you'd think LJ had been bought by Microsoft and was forcibly being converted to LivejournalXP.

Let me ask the grand assortment of Chicken Littles this: have you ever known [livejournal.com profile] bradfitz to be an idiot? No, you say? Wellllllll, then..

Get your heads unburied from your sphincters and quit being so damn panicky, already. As [livejournal.com profile] bradfitz has said time and again even before SixApart became part of the picture, this is his baby and he wouldn't sell it if he didn't think it wasn't going to be just fine.

Get a collective grip, will you? Jesus.

I'm not panicky about it - just suprised really that Brad's letting someone else tamper with his 'baby'. I know he wouldn't do anything to jepordise (sp) LiveJournal as a website...

Just came as a suprise really.

That might well be a concern if he was going to leave LiveJournal but he's not.

Yup, I know. Like I said, more suprisement than anything. Didn't see it coming :)

Problem is, not all that is evil issues forth from Bill Gates. The trotts have a reputation already for screwing some of their users in the name of the bottem line. And Brad has already admitted that as a businessman, he makes a damn fine programmer...

That, and the majority of the people doing the hollering and shouting are former Six Apart users. Which is enough to make me, and number of other people nervious. Or maybe I just had too much coffee today.

Has anyone looked into potential alternative Family Seats? I sense the possibility of an Arabella on the horizon...

Thing that really bugs me are all the people shouting "Sellout". There's a *huge* difference between selling something and selling out.

And it isn't like we get a choice in the matter...it happened and that's pretty much it. I trust Brad to look out for LJ and I hope everything goes well.

In other news, I really wish you lived closer so that you could come hang out and we could watch movies.

Love you.

Gessi, who has *lots* of movies

I agree, however I'm worried about the ad/price issue.

Well, he's displayed a deep seated aversion to severely pissing off his users so I wouldn't be too worried.

Yeah, I think I'm just overreacting as usual. Not as much as some people have been, though...some people sound about ready to jump ship.

I have mixed feelings about this as well. I havent really noodled it all out quite yet tho. I may post about it if I ever get time (HA!)

I can understand Brad's reasons and that is cool. It is a good move for him. My concerns are more for the future of LJ. Many of the LJ user that are Sixapart users as well seem to be the biggest b*tchers. That concerns me. Once Brad has signed on the dotted line, he no longer owns LJ. He may have a say in how it is run for a certain amount of time, but he no longer has control.

Having gone through a buyout with my own company (you do remember the US West/Qwest buyout dont you?) I have learned the hard way that what they tell you up front and what happens later are two very different things. We know that Brad is doing his best to be above board, and that is cool. We do not know the motives of Sixapart, and judging by how their current users are not happy with this move makes me wonder what their intentions are.

I survived Joe Nacchio raping my company, I would hate to see something similar happen to something I happen to enjoy.

That being said, I dont know these folks, nor have I used their service. People in general dont look forward to change, nor do they like losing what they feel is control of a situation. Perhaps if Brad said this is getting to be too much for me, would you the users want to buy LJ, folks might feel a bit different. I dont know. I just hope for everyone that this turns out better than folks are fearing. Let's all hope we are just wasting a good worry.
