Well, it would cost more than it might if you just started your own nightclub. There might be an advantage in block buying artists with the other locations, but then again it could also end up committing you to a price you might otherwise be able to negotiate down if you have the freedom.
Plus, what if "the chain" is block booking so-and-so but you find out you might prefer to get them-and-them who could also use a date in your area while touring? Or, what if instead of booking this-and-them for one-nighters, you might prefer even a week's stand (or vice versa)?
Another question is how much competition do/would you immediately have? If it's substantial then maybe the franchise name might help create notice and new excitement - Then again, good creative promo can do that too.
I don't know, I prefer creating a totally new thing - and, is House of Blues actually selling franchises? If so, it's hard enough sometimes keeping a club afloat without having to be subject to another's conditions and take.
Thoughts such as this always excite me. My best pal, Cody Palance, and I were going to build our own nightclub restaurant and we had the 3 mil backing lined up. Our plan was to keep it filled with mostly Cody's blues rock band headlining the weekends and traveling "name" entertainment playing the weekdays. But, life can be a bitch. Make plans and God likes to play the joker. Sadly, Cody was found to have cancer and in a matter of months I lost my best friend.

I wish you better luck.
