You know, people get completely psychotic and bent out of shape over telemarketers, survey takers, what have you. So can somebody please explain to me why most of these same people will piss themselves laughing over phone prank "humor"?

Why is it somebody calling to sell you something that might actually be useful is cause for homicide, and some juvenile moron doing really bad voices is high comedy?

I mean, it's bad enough when you have pissants like The Jerky Boys around in purely audio form (does anybody remember the Jerky Boys movie? I didn't think so), but now Comedy Central has this show called Krank Yankers that is phone pranks set to puppetry! What the fuck?

He's a troublemaker that one...

but still right.

Prank phone calls stink (although i think drunk teens calling my house at 2am trying to get an "escort" are probably worse... My phone number is only 1 digit different from a local service...)

Dude, I don't get it either. Prank calls piss me off more than telemarketers.

In the words of Mel Brooks, "I cut my finger. That's tragedy. A man walks into an open sewer and dies. That's comedy."
It's all fun and games as long as it's happening to someone else.

I never found prank phone calls funny and have never understood the appeal. But for some reason, many people think embarassment and harassment are humourous. Blech!

I used to work at an adult bookstore and we used to get all kinds of weirdos calling trying to get us to talk dirty to them, etc. We had a store policy of messing with them as much as possible while they were on the phone and/or getting their number off of the caller I.D. and calling them back after we hung up.

Phone pranksters suck, but having a little fun at their expense seems to be reasonable to me.

Prank caller humour pisses me off, because i used to be other end of that shit when i worked for the mail order company. I also don't like so-called humor pages of how people fuck with telemarketers. I mean, these people are just doing a goddamned job that may not pay enough to compensate with the some of the shit they have to eat every day. They are not out to destroy your life, they just want to get in their quota of calls so they can get their 6-8 bucks an hour. Just calmly tell them you're not interested, and ask them to place your name on their Do-Not-Call-List, and, nine times out of ten, they will apologize for bothering you and hang up.
