There was a Royal Commission into the Queensland Police called the Fitzgerald Commission. Queensland was also known for having the worst record of gerrymandering electorates to ensure that the conservates stayed in power during the reign of Premier Bjelke-Petersen. Queensland is also one of the most homophobic and rascist areas in the country (excluding Brisbane and Surfers Paradise [main urban areas]), and was the last state in Australia that had homosexuality on the books as a criminal offense. Tasmania (the state I lived in) was the second last, but they were the first state in the country to include gays in anti-discrimination leglislation.
