What do you get when a blood bank worker and a parking enforcement officer share an apartment in Queens? The producers of Half Pint hope it equals a hit TV show. The title is a play on words, referring both to the blood bank where one character works and also the size of the series’ performers.
Gary Coleman and Emmanuel Lewis will be playing the starring roles in the new comedy and hopes are high that the show will be a hit. “Manny and I were out drinking and I finally got him to admit that his show was just a cheap rip off of Different Strokes”, says Coleman. “But the more we talked about it the clearer it became. If my show as a hit and Webster, which was just a rip off, was a hit, just imagine what both of us could do if we ripped off some other show.”
“And that’s how it started”, says Lewis. “Doctor shows are popular now and so are police shows. And The Odd Couple was a great show. Put ‘em all together and you got yourself a hit!”
Gary Coleman will play the part of Lenny Gilberman, a stressed out parking enforcement officer. Coleman thinks his work as a security guard will help him really sink his teeth into the part. Lewis says he’s been hanging out at the blood bank since the early 90’s trying to earn a buck or two. “Mostly on the donating end”, admits Lewis “but I guess now I finally get behind the scenes.”
Emmanuel Lewis will appear in his first starring role since somebody figured out that a black 20 year old dwarf posing as a 10 year old who gets adopted by a white family and has to call his adoptive mother ‘maam’ was basically Uncle Tom for the 80’s.
Half Pint is expected to be shown on ABC’s Thursday night slot this coming fall.
