What a tool, our Preznit.

"GREECE, N.Y. - President Bush, facing an uphill battle on Social Security in Congress, worked Tuesday to persuade moderate Republicans to resist pressure from constituents and support his ideas for changing the nation's retirement system."

In other words, "Ignore what your constituents are saying and do what I tell you!"

(snip)

"I think more and more people recognize there's a problem and people are going to say `Go do something about it.' And those who obstruct reform — no matter what party they're in — will pay a political price, in my judgment," Bush said.

Okay, Bush apologists - spin this one. Go right ahead.

Uhm. Do any Bush apologists read this journal?

That's just...strange. Kind of. Do they get super pissed when you go off about Bush?

Gluttons for punishment, apparently.

I can't imagine trying to justify anything that moron does.

He's been a foreign policy disaster, and pretty bad domestically, too (federal spending has been increasing at alarming rates, monetary policy has been bad to mediocre, and Bush has never vetoed a single bill). However, cutting marginal tax rates is always a good thing.

Are you ignoring my comments? Haha.

Nope. Didn't have anything to say until the flippin' post office gets back to me. Just today I got a parcel from my mom that was sent two weeks ago, *priority mail*. I love our post office. Really.

OMG...don't ever send anything overseas for the "quick" price. I sent something once that should have gotten to England in 5-10 days, and it took a month and a half. It was like twenty dollars for the shipping. Yikes!

Okayyy...

Someone tell me, america is democracy, right?

So how is, ignoring the people you are supposed to represent and instead follow the orders of the president, compatable with the democractic process...?

so, what is america again?

[identity profile] nsingman.livejournal.com 2005-05-27 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, the United States of America is supposed to be a constitutional republic. Curbing democracy (the tyranny of the majority, or three wolves and a lamb voting on lunch) is one reason why the US Constitution explicitly protects certain individual rights from government intrusion.

When it's actually observed, of course. :-)

I'm not a Bush apologist, but anyone arguing for the status quo on Social Security makes the president look comparatively well-informed (and that's quite an accomplishment). That more and more people recognize that there's a problem is exactly right. I'm afraid the rest (that people want something done, and that those who want the status quo will pay a political price) is questionable, though I wish it were true. Social Security is financially unsustainable, and an ugly combination of a fraudulent insurance scheme and a fraudulent welfare scheme.

It shouldn't be reformed; it should be abolished.

Sounds like four more years of the same thing.
