House Approves Flag-Burning Amendment

WASHINGTON - The House on Wednesday approved a constitutional amendment that would give Congress the power to ban desecration of the American flag, a measure rejected twice by the Senate in the past decade but expected to get a closer vote this year.

(Agree with this or not, but if what that gibbering bastard said doesn't piss you off and the games the far Reich are playing with the memories of the fallen of That Day doesn't piss you off, then I frankly pity you.)

But Rep. Jerrold Nadler (news, bio, voting record), D-N.Y., said, "If the flag needs protection at all, it needs protection from members of Congress who value the symbol more than the freedoms that the flag represents."

well if we're going to do that, then we need to follow the letter of the flag law and BAN the ugly flag clothes people wear, coffee mugs.. forbid it from being displayed in or on anything other than a pole. Better yet.. why don't we just send some discreet folks to washington DC in the dead of night and put all the flags around the places of power upside-down cuz THE UNITED STATES IS IN DISTRESS!

The direction our country is taking is what frightens me most. Supposedly, the Republicans are supposed to have a "less government is better" approach, however, I see an out of control machine limiting our freedoms at every turn - I'm thinking they are becoming more Nazi-like than any far left wing socialist ever dreamed. I think what scares me the most though is what comes next. Banning abortion? Banning birth control? I harbor no ill will against anyone's choice in religion (it is, at the moment, still a free country, kinda), however, these bible thumpin Christians running loose in the White House is making this Pagan wary of being burned at the stake. Again.
