IMO, it's a memory error. Somebody wasn't playing in their own sandbox. Beyond that, I'm not sure - has it repeated? If so, does it happen the same spot all the time?
Are you using ULead DVD Movie Factory? If so a few others have had issue with it and XP. Two things I noted were that if you're burning a disk and your virtual memory is set too low that could be a problem, also Norton, if you have it could be causing problems if it's activated while you burn. Just some thoughts.
hey there chuckles. I do tech support for LaCie. I concur with above memory suggestion and here's something you might want to try, its more in regards to a delayed write failure but will have the same effect with your mystery memory issue. 1. Open the Device Manager and find the drive as listed under Disk Drives. Go into the Properties for it and select the Policies tab. Either uncheck Write Caching, or select Quick Removal. 2. Under XP, Right click My Computer, select Properties, Advanced Tab, Settings Button under Performance, Advanced Tab under Performance Options, Change button under virtual memory) Click on the Custom Size option, and multiply both the Initial and Maximum size values by 1.5. Thus, if the initial size is 512K, change it to 768K (512 x 1.5 = 768). Reboot.
My live in techie person says to start simple.. uninstall and reinstall the program that's flipping out. He rambled on for a lil while about reasons why but I sorta zoned out. Basically, it may just be the program and windows flipping out together. If that works, then great... if not... it may be other stuff... he mentioned other stuff... but once again, i wasn't really listening....
