BETTY went gawth! That was unexpected! She didn't seem angsty enough, though. And just the fact that her new buddies used exclamation points, I dunno... seems fishy to me.
And it seems REALLY weird to see Archie characters talking about video games. I realize the comics have to change with the times and everything, but, wtf? It's ARCHIE!
I love the dress Veronica's got on in the last panel, though.
[snort][chuckle][guffaw] There used to be some Common Wisdom regarding old guys trying to "write young" in a desperate attempt to catch the youth demographic, especially in TV shows. This is absolutely an example of that, and I have no idea if they thought it through enough to congratulate themselves on the shallowness of their treatment with the excuse that "Hey! Betty wouldn't know that much about Goth, either".
The big tipoff for me is, of course, how eager they are to play "Sonic the Hedgehog", a long-dead franchise. GTA, Halo, Call of Duty, SSX, Soul Caliber 3... but not frickin' Sonic.
The ten-to-fifteen-year-old slang throughout doesn't help matters any.
I do have to amend one point, though -- out of curiosity I just went looking, and found, to my great surprise, a new "Sonic" game -- more specifically, Shadow the Hedgehog, who I guess has guns 'n' stuff, from the look of things. Sigh. Oh, the simple days of running and collecting rings....
it could be a good sign though... since the scene is coming present again with all the younger kids... seems we go through a 10 year cycle ... every 10 years goth becomes the in thing again. it just changes a little with the times. time for new blood... yummy
but yeah... archie... wierd... i always thought archie was a 50's comic. They could have made her go greaser and I would have believed that more.
That cracked me up! They totally should have. A crossdressing greaser, with a leather jacket, greased back hair, and a pack of cigarettes up her sleeve. And don't forget the tight, tight jeans.
