San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly calls for Bill O'Reilly to be fired

Not everybody took Fox News host Bill O'Reilly's on-air comments this week about terrorists bombing Coit Tower as the hyperbole that fills the talk-radio ether. One of the ticked off was San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly, who Friday called for O'Reilly to be fired.

"For an anchor on a major station, Fox News, to be saying those kinds of things, it's just not OK," Daly said Friday. "It was just over the top."

Although I'd hardly call Fox a "major station" - at least not for anyone who takes news seriously - I still say O'Reilly was way out of line, and firing seems like an appropriate response - at least unless and until public flogging returns.

Seriously, the comments are so incendiary, and so completely irresponsible, not to mention in violation of both broadcast and journalistic ethics, someone, somewhere, needs to pull O'Reilly - and anyone else using such rhetoric - up short.

O'Reilly's handlers are trying to cover it up and act like he didn't say it.
