U.S. Lifts Longtime Drilling Ban on Alaskan Wildlife Habitat

"The Department of Interior on Wednesday approved oil and gas drilling on Alaska land considered such sensitive wildlife habitat that it was first protected by former Interior Secretary James G. Watt under President Reagan, and by four Interior secretaries since.

The decision — decried by Native American, hunting and environmental groups — comes just weeks after the U.S. Senate rejected drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, about 200 miles to the east.

Bureau of Land Management staff said the decision was made after three years of study and in response to requests by Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force."

Some of you Bush apologists want to explain how this entire goddamn administration isn't one big pile of scum, again?

That's Bush Co's motto.

After all of our efforts to preserve the wildlife on this planet, no matter how many petitions you sign, how many marches you attend, and how many donations you make it always seems the insensitive smegma always win their way.
Makes me sick.

And all this surprises any of you????? Face it, Bush has NO CLUE what he's doing. What can we expect from a "C" student, a former (?) coke-head and military drop-out? Not much.

Out of about 500,000 acres, total:

"No surface drilling will be allowed on 242,000 acres considered vital for molting geese, or on another 244,000 acres used by caribou. Slant drilling will be allowed under those surfaces from adjoining land. Pipelines must be seven feet high, at least initially, to allow caribou and hunters to pass beneath.

A maximum of 2,100 acres total in seven different zones can be permanently disturbed on the surface, and a three-year study will be conducted of molting geese, BLM staff said."

This is hardly intrusive. Relax.

I don't give a flying good goddamn if it's intrusive, Noah. That's not the point. They took a goddamn back door to give more money to big oil after being told no several times and over the objections of all those people just proves to me even more that these bastards are evil, larcenous scum that need to be frogmarched out of the White House and put away somewhere nice and vile.

I defy you to tell me you trust those bastards to stay within that limit. Go right ahead and try. They grant themselves exceptions right, left and sideways as a matter of course. How can you look at this and tell me to try and relax? I just don't get it.

Perhaps "relax" wasn't the best word. :-)

That they're larcenous scum just means that they're no different from any other administration, even the "best" of which (over the past century or so) still took a fifth or sixth of everything Americans produced in a year. Why worry about a few animals when they're making a war and killing people?

Trust them? Not hardly. I don't trust them as far as I can throw a cheesecake under water. But this is among the least of their offenses. I'm far more concerned with hundreds of billions of dollars in unconstitutional spending and thousands of American soldiers (and at least tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians) dead in an unconstitutional war. Caribou and geese be damned.

I think Bush and his administration proved that they don't give a flying fuck about what people think when he took this country to war against Iraq.
