Note: Not work safe in that you'll need to turn down any speakers you might have on.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] griffen for alerting me to the fact that Rush Limbaugh is making even more of a colossal fool of himself than ever. How?

This is how.

Fat friggin' moron.

And I support his right to have a radio show regardless.

Also, saying that a company that supports Rush is bad is like a right-winger saying that a company that supports gays is bad. And we all hate it when they say THAT now don't we?

Were is the line drawn exactly?

ok... I'll take the bait too

I agree with murnkay on this one. Sure, he's a blowhard, and he has a lot of listeners, but this is a free (well... it is supposed to be) country. And those sponsors pay for a lot of stuff... they don't necessarily support what he says, they just wanna sell their merchandise.

Also, blaming him for one of his listeners being a psycho, is like blaming the Columbine shootings on the Heavy Metal Industry. It doesn't wash.

Be Well,

Helen

Well, I for one don't think he (or anyone else) has any "right" to have a radio show. A right to express his views, yes. But no one has an inherent right to that (or any) level of syndication of said views.

Yes, the sponsors are just trying to make money and sell their product, and they are free to financially support a show like this if they think it will accomplish that goal. I'm just as free to not buy their stuff if I don't want any of my dollars passed up the line.

So what's the debate about again?

*nodnod* I remember, a number of years ago, discussing why I didn't want to go to Carl's Jr (Hardees to the east coast folk) ('cause Carl was (and, as far as I know, the company still is) giving large amounts of money to Operation Rescue and the like) with my Nan...she said that it ws his right to give them that money. I said that I agreed completely, but I didn't want to help him get the money.

Go femakita! I'm making a mental note to see the segment again and write down the sponsors in question. Saves me having to listen to the show.

My problem with TBTM...

...is that they are typical of emotionally manipulative propaganda/marketing, in that they make broad statements supported by striking images - but quote no references.

Rush is known for making an obnoxious ass out of himself - it's why some people listen to him. What statement did the (probably mentally unstable) "Terrorist" misinterpret? What is the Senator's name? When did this incident occur? Is there a New York Times or Washington Post article we can reference?

Excellent point on TBTM, which, for all intents and purposes could be renamed, "Swing the media back to supporting 100% liberal ideals"

I'll say this too, I* am a right-winger. I am conservative. Do I claim Rush to be part of my group? No. he's a pompous ass who, although he does have his finger on the pulse of plitics, he's miscounting the heartbeats.

If some moron takes a radio commentary show to extremes, how is that the commentator's fault?

That fat pig...
