What's the limit on activating copies of XP Pro before it horks and you have to call in and get a new activation code?

Dependant on your program, twice assuming you have made signifigant changes to your machine. Its my understanding that a lot will also depend on the license you paid for on the software as well.

*shrug*

When I was working contract tech support for the Evil Empire, I was told that it's variable --and deliberately so. You might get five times, you might not even get twice.

It'll also demand re-activation if you make any 'major' hardware changes to an otherwise-stable box. Put in a new video card --reactivate XP; put in a stick of RAM --reactivate XP. Because Bob forbid you should use one copy of the damn thing on more than one machine...

Sorry, I realize that doesn't help much. But M$oft PD wouldn't share that info with their own techs, much less with us phone-monkeys.

you have mail

Like flexibleflyer said, it varies. I've heard some people do it several times and even run multiple copies at the same time. I had to do a reinstall of a copy I only ever installed once before, and it locked me out of activating it on the new one. I just upgraded to a new HD, everything else on the comp was the same, but it knew that the copy had already been installed once on a "different" computer, so I had to call for a new activation code on only my second install. YMMV.

If you have a volume license key (if you're using a serial # from a website, it's likely a volume license key), it may not have a limit. Volume license keys are designed to allow for large numbers of installs
