Show update the third

Folks, I am sorry from the bottom of my heart but I am just not up for a show tonight. The hardware problems have got me seriously bummed out and I'm just not in the mood. Sorry and I'll do my best to get back to form next weekend.

Windows is That Way.

I spent the past two days figuring out that there just isn't a way to make two network cards, an SCSI card, an old modem and a new 5-port USB 2.0 card play nicely with AGP video and the full suite of onboard peripherals while under Windows 98.

The same pieces all work beautifully when thrown together in the same box under Debian Linux with the 2.6.20.1 kernel.

The first sign of trouble was a system that wouldn't boot to the GUI when a disk-like device was plugged into the USB. The more insistant problem involves a reset back to LILO during the Windows startup process.

The older of the two network cards, the one with marginally better performance under linux, lost that fight.

Whee! Now I gots da 2.0. 'course now I get to explore the realization that not all USB 2.0 hubs are created equally.

(Try plugging the drive into a USB 1.1 hub.)

Aw, if I could only see that smile in front of me it'd be a rare day I'd be sad anyway. Thanks, hon.
