Northwest Passage

Chorus:

Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;
Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage
And make a Northwest Passage to the sea.

Westward from the Davis Strait 'tis there 'twas said to lie
The sea route to the Orient for which so many died;
Seeking gold and glory, leaving weathered, broken bones
And a long-forgotten lonely cairn of stones.

Three centuries thereafter, I take passage overland
In the footsteps of brave Kelso, where his "sea of flowers" began
Watching cities rise before me, then behind me sink again
This tardiest explorer, driving hard across the plain.

And through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west
I think upon Mackenzie, David Thompson and the rest
Who cracked the mountain ramparts and did show a path for me
To race the roaring Fraser to the sea.

How then am I so different from the first men through this way?
Like them, I left a settled life, I threw it all away.
To seek a Northwest Passage at the call of many men
To find there but the road back home again.

Unpublished additional verse:

And if should be I come again to loved ones left at home,
Put the journals on the mantle, shake the frost out of my bones,
Making memories of the passage, only memories after all,
And hardships there the hardest to recall.

I absolutely cannot even think of this song without thinking of Due South.

BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. *dances around* How'd he look?

Probably the only reason I miss watching wrestling. I don't even KNOW who's running what angles any more.

He's gotten pudgy in the face, and his hairline has receded greatly. But otherwise, he can still wear the clothes.

That was amusing, to see who they pulled out for the elimination match. And the flashbacks were cool.

HAHAH, well, to be honest, he was always a little pudge-faced. To be expected, though, everybody gets older. XD Who else showed up?

For the elimination match? Sarge. Slaughter, Doink, The Repo Man, Al Snow (who looks GREAT!), Steve Blackman, Scotty Too Hottie (who can NOT wear the clothes any more - he looks awful), one of the preppie guys from the whole Shane's posse angle - his name escapes me at the moment, and....

GILLBERG! Who was the first one out of the ring. The ENTIRE ring ganged up on him and threw him over the top. It was GREAT!

There were others, but I can't remember them all.

NICE. Sounds like a good time, shame I missed out. Difficult explaining the wrestling love to the family, though. >.>

He looked great. I completely marked out when he started down the walkway.

I could just picture you doing that, m'dear. I know to this day, when my playlist scrambles and all of a sudden that heavy breathing comes on, I fully expect all the lights in the room to go out without warning. Think they'll always be my favorites, no question.

I've never seen that last verse before. That's very cool. Thanks!
