I've kept this quiet, but this is last second and I am just about at the end of my rope.

The Asshole (Ex)Landlord somehow managed to convinced the gimps at that last court hearing way back when that I still owe him 733 bucks. I haven't been able to do that to this point, but will be able to in a few weeks. That's not the point of the post.

The point is that jerk has me set for a Debtor's Exam hearing today - which I cannot get to owing to an utter lack of transportation. I have nothing to bring to it anyway. I have no bank accounts, I have nothing except the clothes on my back and a few spares mostly riddled with holes. My one and only pair of wearable shoes has a missing gripper part of the sole.

What's got me damn near panicking is if I don't make the damn hearing I could have a warrant issued for my frickin' arrest! I seriously have no idea what the hell to do here and I need help!

EDIT: And it just got worse. I called the Circuit Court Clerk to explain what was happening, and she said they'd need something in the files if I can't be there. Well, the same lack of transportation prevents me from doing that. I could maybe use eFax but I just discovered that thanks to bad timing between paypal and the ex-roomie's check deposit, the paypal account is just under 500 dollars in the hole. that's the only credit card option I have, see, their paypal plug in deal. I'm trying real hard not to panic right now but it ain't working.

Isn't there a local citizen's advice bureau you can call? Check the blue section in your phone book.

It might be a bit late if the hearing is today, but free legal advice is free legal advice.

Also google for any sort of legal-charity service. There's a surprising number of lawyers out there who are willing to donate their time.

Failing that, do you know which judge is running the hearing? Call the courthouse and explain your situation.

And there MUST be something out there about "adequate notice" not being given that could possibly help you out...

BTW, it's probably a "bench warrant" which means that no-one will actively look for you but if you, say, got pulled over for speeding and a cop ran your ID, then they'd be obliged to bring you in...

Any possibility you can get a legal assistance program to just give you a ride to the courthouse?
