Let's see the Bush loyalists spin this.

Please don't feed me reams of schweinerei about how Bush isn't doing this. He's commander in chief and needs to be taking care of his troops. Period. Here's a clue, Dubya - this ain't how.

Just for the record, in case you missed it - that's from the Army times and the writer is a staff writer for the Marine Corps Times. Insult them by calling them part of the so-called "liberal media", and you'll be lucky to wake up in the hospital without your head shoved up your own backside.

Grrr...that makes me so flipping angry. Military schools are uniquely geared for military kids. Not only do they allow you to go to school with other people who understand your circumstances but they are specifically geared for kids who move around a lot. Trying going in and out of civilian schools in the middle of the school year, particularly in small towns. DoD teachers are some of the best and ensure that military kids get a consistent and decent education, one of the few perks still left to our troops.

As to the commissary closures....grrr, again. Commissaries not only serve active but also retired soldiers. They offer some discounts to our troops who are already underpaid and who often qualify for food stamps and subsidized school lunches. In addition they offer an outlet for sale of products that the government buys back from farmers.

Commissaries and military schools should not be evaluated sheerly on profitability and if it is a profitability issue then perhaps some management evaluations is due.

There are precious few benefits left to our troops. Don't fuck with with remaining few. Especially at a time of war when our troops do not need to stress over the education and well being of their children.

Grrr...

...there's intimations in this article that the military may be reaching the edge of turning around and saying, "With all due respect, FUCK YOU SIR, we're not gonna take this crap any more."
Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
