The whole story strikes me as bizarre most of all. Must be a damn slow news day.
I have to admit, I can see the point (or a point): People aren't annoyed that Canadians are using the maple leaf to express pride in being Canadian (or if they are, they're morons); they're annoyed that Canadians are using the maple leaf to express pride in not being us. Hit someone where it hurts and yeah, they're gonna bitch.
I was actually told many times when younger, mostly in high school, that if ever traveling abroad to put a maple leaf flag on our backpacks so people think we're Canadian, because people like Canadians.
Heh! I don't bloody well blame them. If I had to travel overseas I think I'd be tempted to go up to Vancouver to get some luggage out of sheer embarrassment for the assheadedness of the 'war effort'...
I've known more than a few Americans who claim they're Canadian when they're abroad. Even before Iraq II, they just got a better reception when doing so.
