Ah heck man - they haven't been letting service people who've done their time come back and if that isn't a draft I don't know what is. So I guess this doesn't surprise me much. I'm not going to move to Canada but I may help others if they put a draft in place...

It's pretty much a forgone conclusion he has to draft people to keep the war in Iraq going.

Not that I'm cynical or anything...

Yup. Mark my words, it'll happen. No one believes me!!!!!
Here's link to a fairly common discussion I had, and end up having whenever I bring up the fact that the draft CAN and WILL happen, immediately following the next (yes that'll happen too, silly) big fat terrorist attack.

O.o !

He's fucking kidding, right?
Nobody could be that fast off the blocks to break a campain promise could they....oh, yeah. He probably could couldn't he.

Shit, and where America goes, so goes Britain. I mean, nobody here believes Blair's [B-lier] promise that the troops will be home by Christmas... [yeah, like we haven't heard that before!]
And he's as good as admitted that we don't have enough troops to fulfil our role...

I guess we're next.
Right now I'm thankful for my fucked up back...
OTOH, my daughter turns 18 in a couple of years, and the British army does allow posting women to combat roles.

Shit, time to think about moving... FAST!

it may be a prelude, but really, all it says is "you don't get financial aid in college if you didn't register with selective service" - which, by law, should have been done when you turned 18 anyway.

registering is from what 1974? this isn't a new thing - just trying to not give money to people that didn't register like they were supposed to.

timing and whatnot is fishy:) and yeah, it may be in prep for a draft - but in that case, they've been preparing for 30 years, this isn't hardly anything new.

What does this mean;
Furthermore, Section 12(f)(3) of
the Military Selective Service System Act authorizes the Secretary of
Education, in agreement with the Director of the Selective Service, to
prescribe methods for verifying the statements of compliance filed by
students."
Methods? What methods?

That's been a law for some time now. I was initially denied federal financial aid due to the post office not processing my selective service application.
