Well, the all-Goth all the time format was getting nowhere for reasons I've outlined before (mainly it's been done over and over and the ones who've done it well have Very Well Established listener bases that just are not going to switch or add a station to their playlists). I asked you folks about switching to a variety format and you said it would be a good thing and that's gone even worse once the novelty wore off. I mean, if people want variety they can plug in their own playlists and hit random.
So here's the thing: there's a related genre of our original format that's not been done to death (you should pardon the expression) as a format and really grabs me when I listen to it. It grabs a whole heck of a lot of people, truth be told, and I think I'd like to give it a shot.
Horrorpunk. Gothabilly/Pyschobilly. Graveyard Surf. In short, Misfits/Nekromantix/3-D Invisibles type music with stuff like Dropkick Murphys and Eight Ball Grifter thrown in. Plus, of course, stuff for us Olde Farte Gothes and the best of melodic goth as opposed to the endless droning bullshit cookie cutter crap that passes for Goth in a lot of cases these days.
I also want to know what you would like to hear on the station that would get you to tune in more often. Programs I might run, do we need more live DJs, stuff like that. I really want to hear from you folks on this, so sing out.
No kidding, folks, I'm really counting on you here. Help your ol' Doc out and let me know.

Date: 2006-04-07 09:02 am (UTC)There's still a thriving scene in NYC with lots of little indie bands - maybe there's a mailing list you can get on to see if they'll send you samples?
