Okay, folks. I haven't gotten *express* permission to do it, but it's popping up all over the place anyway so I might as well go ahead (and please be aware the stuff has been cut/pasted from an entry in [livejournal.com profile] gothconvergence originally by [livejournal.com profile] aetiglathpz plus the info that's been all over the place):

There is a warrant out for the arrest of William Hamlet Hunt.
White male approximately 27 years old, slender 5'11"
New Orleans Police Department case number D13626.
NOLA PD phone (504) 658-6727, 822-1111 or 911 from within New Orleans.

Also known as "Will" or "Billy" he may be in the New Orleans area or hanging around in Alabama: Auburn or Birmingham.

This is Heather before the attack:

This is Heather after the attack:

"My left cheekbone is fractured in 8 places, broken in 3; my eye socket is broken in two; my nose is broken; my septum is torn; my jaw is fractured in two places; my bite is off and my teeth are misaligned; part of my cheekbone is floating in my cheek; and, if he had kicked me with ONE MORE OUNCE OF PRESSURE I would have died."

Please help us find him, if you have ANY information contact the NOLA police department...

I'm pretty sure everybody who has surfed LJ or myspace lately has seen the bulletins of Heather being assaulted. More info is on Heather's LiveJournal and Heather's Myspace regarding the matter. Here are more pictures of William Hamlet Hunt. Pictures are from Heather's LJ.

**It is important to note that this guy is on the run and could very well be anywhere by now. He may even still be in NOLA.

**He is adaptive and can change his appearance and demeanor. It is better focus on his face than hair color as he can easily dye it. He might have a couple days growth on a beard or be clean shaven.

**He might be wearing glasses, take note of eyebrows and eye shape and color.

**He might be wearing normal civilian cloths now and not black. Easier to hide.

**He has tattoos on both arms.(edit picts of tattoo's added)

I never said that--don't be fatuous.

But our legal system ('our' meaning 'those derived from British law') relies on the concept of innocence unless proven otherwise in a court of law.

Problem with that is, we have to catch the slimy bastard first. I'm absolutely with you on this. He needs to have a trial and let's face it the humiliation that goes with it. He deserves a hell of a lot more than that, but I want to do this by the book as well.

yeah..except she was the one attacked and KNOWS he is the one who attacked her

My ex tried to kill me once..put a gun to my head but it jammed.....he never was convicted...doesn't mean he wasn't guilty of it..our system of justice sucks

That's immaterial. Even if he was caught on tape, and the video was broadcast on CNN--he's still innocent until the law has proven him guilty. Our system may be imperfect, but that single concept of innocence is the most important thing about it.

Yep, this is the second time I've read about this, so the word is definitely being passed around. Such a shame that this incident happened.

Okay, Doc, this is like the seventh time I've seen this today. Pray excuse the cynical sound, but ... why should I care?

I really do mean that seriously. Why should I care so much about one girl who was beaten up by her boyfriend? Is she particularly famous in the community? Is he? Is there something that makes this beating more special than the dozens, if not hundreds, that happen every day?

I'm trying to understand why everyone's so up in arms about this one particular girl. Any explanation? 'cause I'm baffled.

Hmm

From: [identity profile] louisadkins.livejournal.com
I would actually go the other way.
Why should you care more about it if the person was famous?
I think that every incidence of such should have public notation.
Might not be very realistic, but still...

Then, at least I could understand why I've seen it so often on my flist today, in comms that have nothing to do with the con or the goth society, etc. If she were a "personality", maybe I could see why it was gathering so much attention.

Right now, she's no different to me than Jane Q. Public at the battered woman's shelter, or Margaret D. People in the ER. I'm really not understanding why she's getting so much attention, and (pardon the phrasing) everyday beatings do not. I agree, every incident should be publicly acknowledged. I'm just very confused as to why everyone seems to have latched onto this one.

i think because it happened at convergence is the main reason... i'm sure lots of people know her through meeting her there... hearing about the incident, and now people are on the lookout.

Simply because she was/is willing to talk about it.

She's NOT willing to be a victim.

I think for the most part people do care, they're talking about THIS one case because THIS one case is the one they've heard about, the one they know, the one they can say something about because they got it from 'the horses' mouth'

Because it's livejournal, and it feels like community, because it's livejournal and she is no one in particular, it reminds us all that it could be any one of us.

she happens to be a friend of a friend and she also happens to have many LJ friends who care and want the word out...and I, being a compassionate human being, care about her and anyone else who would be in her position..regardless of fame or lack there of

Why should you care? Because if we didn't care about other humans we would be a sad sad lot.

Because this coward is running like the scared little bitch he is, and I for one am extremely encouraged that people are willing to help and try to catch this scumsuck. I will not apologize for trying to help one person against one coward, not that you're asking me to and I know you better than that.

Also because now I have something of a bully pulpit and I by God intend to put it good use instead of bad jokes and show announcements for once.

Look, I’m with you if people are posting random off topic shit in communities – I led the charge when someone from my area decided to post a missing person’s notice in a baseball community last year – time and a place and all - but crying about a post on someone’s personal journal? Now you’ve lost me. If you're annoyed by what your friends choose to post on their journals, why not drop them then and go away?

and I really do mean that seriously and I'm not trying to be a smart ass here - and if you're somehow annoyed by something that your friends care enough to post about - why are you still their friends? If you've seen it so many times an your FL, maybe it's something that's important to them (and being a friend sometimes means looking past a post or three that you could “care less” about but they do)... Me - I tend to simply take people off my friends list that do things that annoy me. Do you just simply want to keep people around to have an excuse to complain?

All due respect, but since I don't know you from Adam’s off ox and don't particularly have a personal attachment to this event, maybe the perspective of a third party might carry a little further - but you really come off like an ass here, and your overall attitude here is part of the problem with the whole damn human race. People ask "why does this one particular seemingly small thing matter" instead of just fucking making it matter for whatever reason. The small shit DOES add up - yeah, in the grand scheme 1 more person/event doesn't make a difference in and of itself, but if people react based on that and try to move forward in a positive direction, maybe in the long run a few hundred/thousand/million might. But until the first (few... hundred... thousand... million) people actually give a shit instead of staying complacent, or worse, complaining and asking why they should give a shit, we're really just on the non stop railway with a train full of selfish idiots on the way to We're-Fuckedville. If your not capable of contributing anything positive to the situation, just simply keep your mouth shut instead of whining - and have no doubt, that's ALL you're doing here is whining about how this applies only to YOU... "Why should I care" - you sound like a spoiled 5 year old brat.

Whaaaah - I’ve seen this post on my FL too many times - Whaaaaah. It’s not a fucking random quiz or survey, it’s about a PERSON.

Why did I ask Doc about it? Because I've known him for .... how many years now, Doc? Ten or so? Because Doc knows that when I say I'm baffled, I'm baffled. Because neither of us play games with our words. Because I trust him to give me an honest answer. That's why I asked him.

If your not capable of contributing anything positive to the situation, just simply keep your mouth shut instead of whining - and have no doubt, that's ALL you're doing here is whining about how this applies only to YOU... "Why should I care" - you sound like a spoiled 5 year old brat.

Please let me follow that with this: Ragging, harsh criticism, and outright attacks against me and my beliefs will get your dumb ass a one way ticket to LJ banning-ville.

Introducing pot to kettle.

Why anybody should care is because there are thousands, probably millions of kids on the internet today, and many of their parents either aren't internet savvy, or haven't realized that parenting SHOULD extend to monitoring what their kids are doing online. People don't grow up knowing how to protect themselves. It is contingent upon us as adults to pay attention to what kids are doing online. You tell your kid not to accept rides from strangers, to walk to the parking lot at the mall with a friend or a security officer. You're just as lax as a parent if you don't teach your child how to protect themselves online, how to assess character (i.e., recognize red flags), and how to communicate with the adults in their lives.

That is why you should care. Because they are kids. They might look like adults. They might act like adults. But they are kids.
