Don Imus

The capacity for selective outrage never ceases to amaze me, I'm as guilty of it as anyone else. Secondly, I am not for a second suggesting that Don's comments were anything but wildly inappropriate and that he shouldn't have been called on the carpet for it.

But what does make me Spock my eyebrow is this torch bearing citizeny mood about it. People are stopping just short of calling for the man to be strung up, for heaven's sake, and lo and behold, the Main Stream Media (you know, that eeeeevil bastion of liberal politics and sensibilities) have helped whip up this feeding frenzy. What I want to know is, why? Where the hell were the MSM or people calling for his head when Ann Coulter called Muslims ragheads? For that matter, where were they when Bill O'Reilly said it would be okay by him if Al Qaeda attacked San Francisco? Or Michael Savage anytime he opens his mouth? I just don't get it.

It's particularly galling to watch Insta-asshat and his cronies use this (and Imus's generally liberal positions) to continue to spread their bullshit implying that the Plame affair wasn't an act of fucking treason.

Now how do they make that stunning leap of logic?

Leaps in logic are their stock-in-trade. But comments like this are typical.

I don't know who Don Imus is, and really don't give a shit one way or another. I think both the far left and far right are a bunch of asshats.

What gets me is the team held a press conference about how hurt they were by the white guy's comments, but no one ever says a damn thing about "gangsta rap" which is far worse.

I'm not much into the blue collar comedy tour or redneck comedy or anything like that, but Ron White is fucking hysterical.

He was telling some gay jokes, which to be a bit more accurate, was his lack of understanding "how it was done" when he was a kid.

He then stated "if you're gay, and you're offended, I'm sorry, I was just pokin a little fun, you have the right to do what you want to do.."

"Just like I have the right to say what I want to say."

Because Don Imus is a safe target. No one really likes him and he has a history of doing crap like this for free publicity. He has no real power to defend himself. Of course, most of the talking heads calling for his firing are other free publicity seekers with no real power either. *shrug* *yawn* Next attempted diversion from what really needs to be done please. Like revamping the tax code, or auditing the oil companies, or rebuilding the health care system... or any number of better uses of our time.

And what about when Jesse Jackson called New York "Hymietown"?
Imus had to go beg forgiveness from Rev Jackson and Rev Sharpton, i mean what's wrong with this picture?
Imus is a bonehead, dosen't make him a cracker or racist.
I guess the piling on, on the old grump was because of a slow news day...i mean they had to wait so long for more Anna Nicole Smith news!

Because Muslims haven't made Protected Status the way blacks and American Indians have. The pendulum has swung the other way with those two minorities because racism will never go away. Racism only finds new targets as old targets gain Protected Status when enough of the old targets have gotten enough power to defend themselves. Trouble is, you don't gain Protected Status until you've been ground down beneath the feet of the Majority for long enough to gain pity. And Muslims will likely never gain that status until they surrender and are conquered and assimilated.

Good point. We are talking about him in my public speaking class, and I knew that worse had been said in other directions with little comment. My comment was that I didn't know which shocked me more: that I agreed with Al "scumbag" Sharpton on someone being fired, or that Imus was still on the air.

Sadly if Imus is fired, he'd probably make money off the punishment. I'd love to be punished by someone handing me a $2 million check.
